Just a reminder...October 1 2009

This Sunday October 4, 2009 will be the last EDGA event of 2009.  This event is open to all EDGA members and is entirely free to participate.

The last event will be the "Mark Chopp Memorial Tourney" which will consist of 3 rounds. The event will open with a doubles tournament at 10:30am, a few holes of minis, and a singles round to close it out.  Please arrive no later than 10:00am so that the logistics can be figured out quickly and the event can start on time.

Thursday League is at 6:00pm

The final Singles League will take place on Thursday September 24th at 6:00pm not the typical 6:30pm!

Night League?! Why not!September 14 2009

Starting this coming Saturday (September 19th) EDGA will be hosting a round of disc golf start at 8:30pm using LED discs.  For those who were not at the Night Owl this is a perfect opportunity to see what all the fuss was about.  You play the round with a single LED lit disc and make your way around the course with only memory as your guide (though flashlights are "technically" allowed).  It's a great way to spend a Saturday evening as the days become shorter and shorter.

Photos taken during a round of LED disc golf can be viewed on Shayne's Flickr Photostream.

Final EDGA Events of 2009September 14 2009

As the 2009 disc golf season draws to a close in Edmonton, EDGA has couple more events planned to help usher out the season.  The first of which is awarding those with the highest "Tag".  To do so there will be a final tournament held on Sunday September 27 at 10:30am.  The same points system used last year will be in effect this year so try and get as low as possible before the event!

The last event will be the "Mark Chopp Memorial Tourney" which will be held on Sunday October 4 and will consist of 3 rounds.  The event will open with a doubles tournament at 10:30am, a few holes of minis, and a singles round to close it out.  This event is free for all EDGA members and we ask that you arrive no later than 10:00am so that the logistics can be figured out quickly and the event can start on time.

Night Owl Success!September 5 2009

Edmonton's second annual Night Owl took place on September 4th, 2009 at 9:00pm.  On a cool but windless night more than a dozen participants took to the extremely dark course armed with nothing but an LED lit disc and memory as their guide.

Additional photos of the event can be viewed on Shayne's Flickr Photostream.

River City Cup 2009 Official ResultsJuly 20 2009

The 12th Annual River City Cup was a great success! 64 participants took to the newly renovated Rundle Park Disc Golf Course, and quickly found that the new course was longer and tougher but yet extremely fun and enjoyable, except for the weather, players found themselves playing with temperatures of just over 30 degrees on Saturday, and then Sunday the course became extremely tough, due to the nasty storm that rolled in Saturday night, causing so much damage around the city and to our beautiful new course, tall trees toppled over like dominoes, ripped from its roots and onto our beloved course. Yet this didn't stop our players from enjoying the game they love so much, snow, rain, crazy storms and or shine, only disc-golfers play in extreme conditions.

Severe Storm Thrashes Rundle ParkJuly 19 2009

During the evening of July 18th 2009 a severe thunderstorm rolled through the Edmonton area causing widespread damage.  Right in the middle of its path of destruction was the newly renovated Rundle Park Disc Golf course and the damage was immense.  With windspeeds well over 100 kph many of the large trees didn't stand a chance against Mother Nature and here are some images of the end result:

The Edmonton Journal has a number of articles about the storm as well:
